Dongxiao Ma, a partner of Zhong Lun Law Firm, was named as one of the "2021 ALB China Top 15 IP Lawyers" by Asian Legal Business (ALB) on December 20, 2021.
Mr. Ma is among the first lawyers who have obtained both law practice and patent agent qualifications in China. He has been deeply engaged in the field of intellectual property for nearly 30 years and once headed the legal department and intellectual property department of Haier Group. Mr. Ma mainly handles matters concerning intellectual property transaction, protection and dispute resolution, among others, and excels at dealing with high-profile, complex technical intellectual property cases. His meticulous approach to dispute resolution has won accolades from customers.
Mr. Ma has worked as in-house counsel, intellectual property agent and then lawyer, a diverse background that has greatly enriched his experience. He has represented many intellectual property cases with international influence, such as the dispute over the name “iPad" between Proview and Apple, the name right lawsuit between Qiaodan Sports Company and Michael Jordan, and the copyright claim brought by Founder Group against P&G over use of a computer font. Mr. Ma’s specialty is intellectual property disputes and technology related disputes. So far, he has represented more than 500 intellectual property litigation cases, of which more than 100 are before the Supreme People's Court. Many cases that he has handled, such as the dispute over Beworth’s alleged abuse of a licensed technology secret and the technology secret infringement case involving “Maxcut" optimized cross-cut saws, have been selected as typical cases of intellectual property and antitrust by the Supreme People's Court; he also advised on the Qihoo GUI case, China’s first patent infringement case concerning graphical user interface (GUI) design, and the widely watched Hengbao patent infringement case. Apart from being a lawyer, Mr. Ma also serves other positions, including consultant to the Intellectual Property Committee of the All China Lawyers Association and director of the Intellectual Property Law Research Society of the China Law Society and the China Intellectual Property Society.
