Gang ZHAO

Mr. Gang Zhao has been practicing law for more than 15 years, handling over 2,500 IP and antitrust cases of different types. He specializes in IP lawsuits concerning copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, and unfair competition, among others. Mr. Zhao also has considerable experience in managing complex antitrust litigation, advising clients on brand development and IP protection strategies, protection of well-known trademarks, representing clients in administrative litigation of trademark authorization, and helping clients on assignment, licensed use, and compliance of IP rights. He has strong experience and a large client base in sectors such as real estate, media, electronic games, internet, software, artificial intelligence.

He has advised on a number of high-profile and often ground-breaking cases including the copyright infringement litigation regarding the famous teleplay “Empresses in the Palace (甄嬛传)” (selected as one of the “Top 50 IP Innovation Cases” in 2013 by the Supreme People’s Court of the PRC), the copyright infringement lawsuit regarding the world-renowned game “The King of Fighters (拳皇)” (selected as one of the “Top 10 Copyright Cases” in 2020 by the High People’s Court of Beijing Municipality), the “Zhong She (中设)” unfair competition case (China’s first case where a stock name constitutes unfair competition and the judgement was completely enforced), the “JINMAO (金茂)” trademark infringement behavior preservation case (China’s first IP infringement behavior preservation case in the real estate field).
