Zhong Lun Announces 10 Admissions as Partners and 8 Internal Promotions
Zhong Lun Law Firm is pleased to announce that 10 senior partners have joined the law firm as partners by the end of February. The recent Partners Meeting approved admissions of Robert Lewis, Yang Yueming (Victor Yang), Zeng Miaoer (Muriel Tsang), Li Mingshi (Kevin Lee), Shi Meiyu (Dorothy Siron), Sun Wei (William Sun), Lin Zejun and Liang Qinghua into the law firm as partners.
Earlier this year, two senior partners, Yongjun Peter Ni and Ji Chao (George Ji), were admitted as partners in the law firm.
The meeting also approved internal promotions of 8 partners. Zhang Zhong and John Jiang from Beijing office were promoted to senior equity partners; Richard Zeng, Lei Song, Li Yanli and Ma Huijun, also from Beijing office, were promoted as equity partners; Luke Zhang from Shanghai office and Xu Zhigang from Shenzhen office were promoted to equity partners.
Below are introductions of the newly admitted partners.
Robert Lewis (Beijing office)
Robert Lewis has practiced in China for nearly 20 years. He was formerly the managing partner of the Beijing office of Lovells (now Hogan Lovells) for nine years before joining the Beijing office of Shanghai-based AllBright Law Offices earlier last year, making him one of the first senior foreign lawyers to make the move from an international law firm to a leading Chinese law firm.
Yang Yueming (Victor Yang, Hong Kong office)
Victor Yang was a founding Partner of the Canadian-based law firm of Boughton Peterson Yang Anderson, now Boughton Law Corporation and is presently the Managing Partner of Boughton Peterson Yang Anderson.
Mr. Yang attended the University of British Columbia in Canada, where he obtained his Bachelor of Commerce and Juris Doctorate degrees. Mr. Yang was admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Hong Kong in September 1992. He is also admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in British Columbia, Canada (1974) and as a Solicitor of England & Wales (1992).
Mr. Yang’s areas of practice include corporate and commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, securities and public listings, and trusts and tax planning.
Zeng Miaoer (Muriel Tsang, Hong Kong office)
Muriel Tsang graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree and an LL.B degree from the University of British Columbia and was awarded her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Puget Sound (now Seattle University) in Washington. She is qualified to practise in multiple jurisdictions, including Washington (1984), British Columbia (1987), England and Wales (1992) and Hong Kong (1992).
Tsang’s areas of practice include corporate and commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property and technology licensing, transfer and protection, media publications, joint ventures, immigration, wills and estates and other miscellaneous areas.
Li Mingshi (Kevin Lee, Hong Kong office)
Kevin Lee is a qualified solicitor in Hong Kong, England and Wales and British Columbia, Canada. Mr. Lee graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of British Columbia. He obtained his LL.B from Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1984 following which he articled with Bull Housser & Tupper in Vancouver, B.C. After he was admitted to the British Columbia Bar in 1986, Mr. Lee practised in Vancouver with Briant Angus McClellan & Rubenstein.
Lee was admitted as a solicitor of England and Wales in September 1992, and was subsequently admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Hong Kong in October 1993.
Mr. Lee’s areas of practice include tax, trusts, private client practice, corporate and commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, intellectual property, distribution and licensing agreements, charitable and non-profit structures, entertainment and media law (including the motion picture and music recording industries), China ventures, Macau ventures, and Canadian law.
Shi Meiyu (Dorothy Siron, Hong Kong office)
Dorothy Siron is a qualified lawyer in Hong Kong, England and Wales and British Columbia, Canada. She obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree and her Postgraduate Certificate in Laws from The University of Hong Kong and further obtained a Certificate of Accreditation from The University of British Columbia. She is also admitted as a Solicitor and Barrister of the Supreme Court of British Columbia, Canada. She is also an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, U.K.
Ms. Siron’s areas of practice include litigation and alternative dispute resolution. She also handles cases involving family and matrimonial proceedings, employment, contentious and non-contentious probate and trust actions, personal injury and insurance claims, infringement of intellectual property actions, real estate litigation.
Sun Wei (William Sun, Beijing office)
William Sun gained a Bachelor of Engineering from Tsinghua University, before undertaking a Master of Laws at Peking University. He received a Law Certificate jointly issued by the Law Society, the General Council of the Bar and the University of London.
William has broad experience in a number of different legal fields in both China and beyond. William also has extensive experience in matters relating to real estate law and related tax matters, and has provided legal services for real estate development projects, project contracting, and constructing.
Prior to joining Zhong Lun, William worked for a number of law firms in China, London, and Hong Kong, including Taylor Johnson Garrett of London and Deacons Graham & James of Hong Kong.
Lin Zejun (Guangzhou office)
Lin graduated from Zhongshan University and obtained the LL.B and LL.M In 1996, he got Morgan Brown Scholarship and continued his legal education in Queen’s University in Canada and was granted LL.M of international economic law. He once worked in Lawrence Wong & Associates in Canada and Robert W.H Wang & WOO in Singapore. He had also been chosen by Guangdong Bar Association as a visiting lawyer to cooperate and communicate with some famous law firms in Hong Kong.
Lin was the founding partner and director of Guangdong Teamwin Law Firm. He was admitted into PRC bar in 1993. Presently he is managing director of Guangdong Commercial Association, vice-director of E-commerce Committee of Guangdong Bar Association and vice-director of International Commerce Committee of Guangzhou Bar Association.
Liang Qinghua (Guangzhou office)
Liang Qinghua graduated from Peking University and Oxford University, obtaining LL.B and MJuris (LL.M) respectively.
Before joining Zhong Lun, Liang was the co-founder and deputy managing partner of Guangdong TeamWin Law Firm. He was admitted into PRC bar in 1996.
Liang has considerable experience in international trade, customs affairs, setting-up, restructuring and liquidation of joint ventures, acquisition of shareholdings and domestic assets, as well as dispute resolution matters (including arbitration at CIETAC). He has strong relationships with government agencies, in particular the Customs.
Yongjun Peter Ni (Shanghai office)
Peter Ni graduated from Harvard Law School, New York University School of Law and Shanghai Fudan University. He is admitted in both the PRC and the US. Peter started his legal career as a lawyer in China practicing international economic law and an assistant professor at Fudan University School of Law.
Peter Ni has been ranked as a leading individual for China tax by several international organizations for many years. Peter has more than 15 years of experience providing international tax services to MNCs and Chinese enterprises, including nine years in the US. Trained as a lawyer, he is able to provide tax advice in the proper Chinese legal context.
Peter’s practice covers all tax aspects of cross-border investments and transactions, with a focus on market entry and exit strategies, investment structuring and restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, financing, pre-IPO restructuring, transfer pricing, tax-effective supply chain management, high net worth individual tax planning, and tax dispute resolution.
Ji Chao (George Ji, Shanghai office)
George Ji obtained his LL.B from Fudan University Law School. Later he graduated from with distinction from the University of Manchester School of Law and obtained his LL.M. His practice areas include corporate and commercial, real estate, FDI, M&A, and joint ventures.
George Ji had worked with CMS Bureau Francis Lefebvre as Shanghai Office Senior Associate and advised major European clients on China-related matters, in particular corporate and commercial law issues in FDI and M&A areas. He also worked with CMS von Erlach Henrici Zurich Office as Senior Associate & China Law Advisor to advise Swiss clients with investment in China on China-related matters. He was once a partner of Shanghai Pudong Law Office.
