Partner Ping Gu Moderated the Industry Panel at the Sixth International Conference on the Intellectual Property Protection of Technology
On April 25, 2012, Ms. Ping Gu, a partner of Zhong Lun Law Firm Beijing office, was invited to attend the Sixth International Conference on the Intellectual Property Protection of High Technology — Industrial Design Protection of Graphical User Interface (GUI) of Electronic Products, and moderate the Industry Panel. More than 150 attendees, including professionals from patent offices and universities of various countries, leading companies in the industry, and leading law firms and patent agencies, gathered together to share their experiences and insights on the history, current protection and future trends of protecting GUI of electronic products through design patent, copyright, and trademark, etc. in various countries. Attendees expressed their expectations and suggestions on legislation of legal protection for GUI of electronic products through design patent in China.
In the Industry Panel, Ms. Ping Gu interacted with Mr. Bart Eppenauer (Chief Patent Counsel, Microsoft Corporation), Ms. Masko Oono (Patent Engineer, Sony Corporation), Mr. Jie (Parker) Zhang (Patent Director, Baidu Corporation), Mr. Rongxin (Eric) Liu (Director, Legal Department, ZTE Corporation), and Mr. Xuxin Cheng (Deputy Director, Intellectual Property Department, Huawei Tech. Co., Ltd.), and asked them to introduce their latest achievements on GUI design of electronic products and share viewpoints on legal protection of GUI. Ms. Ping Gu asked the panelists to explain future trends and features of GUI design of the respective corporations, and commented on how to achieve strong legal protection for GUI design under different legal frameworks in the various countries. Ms. Gu’s industry panel was very well received.
