Partner Peter Ni was recently interviewed by the China Central TV Station (CCTV) and commented on the implementation of the Shanghai pioneer program on the Business Tax/VAT reform. This reform is currently the most important tax reform in China. It is also one of the core measures that China uses to encourage the industry upgrade and improve China’s overall competiveness. Shanghai was chosen as the first city to implement this pioneer program on January 1, 2012. Six months have passed since then and people wonder how the implementation is going. The CCTV’s Finance and Economy Channel has thus produced a series of episodes on this topic and is broadcasting the series at 8:30 pm every night this week. Peter made comments as a tax expert and proposed recommendations on how to improve the relevant rules so that taxpayers can truly benefit from this reform.
