Sylvia JIANG

Sylvia's key practice areas are domestic and overseas commercial arbitration and litigation at courts of different levels in China.

In her practice, Sylvia has handled many arbitration cases relating to energy, international sale of goods, joint venture, equity transfer, and valuation adjustment mechanism, among others, and has been administered by CIETAC, HKIAC, SIAC, ICC, and LCIA. Many of her cases were conducted in English and governed by foreign laws. She has managed cases across various jurisdictions, including Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

Sylvia has also represented clients in many court cases. One of her mandates was listed as one of the model cases for judicial review in arbitration in the PRC by the Beijing Fourth Intermediate People’s Court in 2019. Also notably is a case where Sylvia acted as a Chinese law expert in an appeal before the Singapore High Court and issued two expert reports, ultimately obtaining a favorable judgment for the client.

  • Represented a Chinese state-owned enterprise (SOE) as claimant in an ICC arbitration concerning disputes over a power plant construction contract

  • Represented a PRC subsidiary of a famous international hotel group as claimant in an ICC arbitration concerning disputes over a hotel management contract

  • Represented a subsidiary of a Chinese SOE as claimant in an HKIAC arbitration concerning disputes over a subscription agreement

  • Represented several funds as claimants in two conjoined HKIAC arbitrations concerning disputes over two related equity transfer contracts

  • Represented a BVI company as claimant in a SIAC arbitration concerning disputes over a cooperative development agreement


Domestic Arbitration

  • Represented a Japanese company as claimant in a CIETAC arbitration concerning disputes over an equity transfer contract

  • Represented an international hotel group's PRC subsidiary as respondent in a CIETAC arbitration concerning disputes over a hotel management contract and a technical contract

  • Represented a US computer security resolutions provider as respondent in a CIETAC arbitration concerning disputes over a partner agreement for a cloud computing system

  • Represented a PRC subsidiary of a multinational IT company as claimant in a CIETAC arbitration concerning disputes over a commercial service contract

  • Represented a PRC dyestuff company as respondent in a CIETAC arbitration concerning disputes over a wastewater disposal contract


Domestic Litigation and Others

  • Represented a subsidiary of a leading multinational IT company as respondent in an action before the Beijing Fourth Intermediate People's Court concerning the validity of the arbitration agreement and persuaded the court to dismiss all the claims brought by the opposing party, with the case listed as one of the model cases for judicial review in arbitration in the PRC by the same court in 2019

    Represented a US insurance company as defendant in an action before the Beijing Third Intermediate People's Court for a dispute over an equity transfer agreement and caused the opposing party to withdraw all its claims

  • Represented a BVI company as applicant in an action before the Chongqing Fifth Intermediate People's Court for recognition and enforcement of an ICC arbitral award rendered in Singapore, with the case settled under terms favorable to the client

  • Represented a PRC subsidiary of a US leading electrified power provider in pursuit of enforcement of a CIETAC arbitral award before the Tianjin Binhai New Area People's Court and successfully had the award enforced

  • Acted as a Chinese law expert in an appeal before the Singapore High Court and issued two expert reports, assisting the client in obtaining a favorable judgment
