Shan (Tessa) WANG

Shan (Tessa) Wang focuses her practice on cross-border and domestic dispute resolution, white-collar crime, and regulatory defense. She previously worked in the International Dispute Resolution Group at the New York office of a leading international law firm.

Ms. Wang has represented multinational companies, state-owned enterprises, and large private businesses on a wide range of commercial disputes, both transnational and domestic, across industries including energy, technology, finance, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, and manufacturing.

She has also been involved in high-profile global investigations involving anti-bribery, accounting fraud, and other corporate misconduct, and regularly assists clients with internal investigations, regulatory inquiries, and crisis response. Ms. Wang also counsels on compliance and risk management in connection with mergers, acquisitions, and cross-border transactions.

In addition, Ms. Wang frequently advises clients on data security and cross-border data transfer issues, particularly in the context of international litigation and arbitration, and cross-border government enforcement actions.

Ms. Wang received an LL.M. from Columbia Law School in 2024, where she was a member of the American Review of International Arbitration, a research assistant to Professor George Bermann, and an LL.M. Board Representative of Columbia International Arbitration Association and Society of Chinese Law. Prior to that, she obtained a Juris Master with honors from Fudan University in 2015. She also received a B.A. with first class honors from Tianjin University of Commerce in 2012, during which she was awarded the Tianjin Municipal Government Scholarship for being among the top 0.5% of performers.

Ms. Wang is admitted to practice law in China and New York. She is a native Mandarin Chinese speaker and fluent in English.

  • A Chinese asset management company in regaining control of overseas assets valued at CNY 10 billion through ICC arbitrations, HKIAC arbitration, and multiple offshore litigation proceedings

  • An international bank in connection with the Qingdao Metals Scandal—one of the largest warehouse frauds in recent history—successfully recovering losses through an ad hoc arbitration under the UNCITRAL Rules

  • A Fortune 500 real estate group in a joint venture dispute with a Chinese partner, obtaining asset preservation over the joint venture company and successfully defending the foreign legal representative against tort claims. The case featured an innovative reliance on the U.S. business judgment rule to address directors' and officers' liability issues in a PRC court. A case commentary authored by the presiding judge was later recognized by the Supreme People's Court of China, and the matter was selected as a 2020 Recommended Company and Commercial Dispute Case by the Shanghai Bar Association

  • A US insurance company in enforcing its contractual rights against its Chinese counterparty under a USD 5 billion M&A transaction through ICC arbitration

  • An oil and gas company in a USD 100 million ICC arbitration arising from a pipeline transportation agreement

  • A Chinese pharmaceutical company in a USD 40 million dispute with a US counterparty over a license-in agreement, resolved through expert determination
