Yidong WEI

Being with Zhong Lun Law Firm since 2005, Mr. Yidong Wei currently serves as a partner in the Beijing office, and his practice focuses on China's private equity real estate practice and REITs. Mr. Wei is keen on providing legal solutions to clients on cross-border real estate transactions and on resolving complicated legal issues in China. He has significant experience advising international and local private equity investors and financial institutions on a wide array of real estate matters, including acquisition and disposition of various types of real property, formation of joint ventures, asset and property management, and built-to-suit lease, involving various real estate sectors (such as industrial real property, warehousing and logistics, data center, office, retail, residential, hotel, leased housing, and infrastructure). He also has significant credentials in advising institutional investors on offshore REITs and China quasi-REITs. Notably, he advised on the first batch of pilot schemes for establishing China Real Estate Investment Trusts (C-REITs).

Mr. Wei received his Bachelor of Law (LL.B.) degree from University of International Relations in Beijing and Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from Duke University School of Law. He lectures regularly for many educational and commercial institutions.

  • Advised Colony Capital on its acquisition of a developer owning a serviced apartment property in Beijing

  • Advised Harvest Capital Partnership Limited on its proposed equity investment in real estate projects in Chongqing

  • Advised GIC on its multiple investment in industrial real properties

  • Advised Merrill Lynch on its structured financing to a developer of a landmark commercial complex project in the Central Business District of Beijing

  • Advised Morgan Stanley's real estate fund on its due diligence on over 20 real estate projects and 40 member companies to facilitate its investment in a pre-IPO of Sino-Ocean Land Holdings Limited

  • Advised Powerlong on its proposed spin-off and separate listing of Powerlong REIT on the Main Board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange

  • Advised RECAP, a Hong Leung Group (Singapore) member real estate investment fund, on its proposed acquisitions of real estate projects in Beijing

  • Advised Shui On Construction and Materials Limited, a Hong Kong property group, on its consolidating and real estate investment in a number of distressed or unfinished properties and listing on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) of the London Stock Exchange

  • Advised UBS Real Estate and Gemdale Corporation on co-investment in residential real estate development projects in Shenyang

  • Advised UOL Group Limited, a Singaporean leading real estate group, on its acquisition of a construction-in-progress mixed use development in Tianjin

  • Advised Warburg Pincus on its acquisitions of retail properties and office buildings in Beijing, Xi'an, Tianjin, Nanjing, and Kunming

  • Deeply involved in first batch of pilot schemes for establishing China Real Estate Investment Trusts (C-REITs) and most notably, acted as a lead counsel in issuance and listing of Bosera China Merchants Shekou Industrial Park Infrastructure REIT and Gfund CRCC Yusui Highway Infrastructure REIT
