Zhong Lun Advises China Mobile on Establishment of Connected Car JV with Deutsche Telekom in China
On October 10th 2014, China Mobile and Deutsche Telekom executed a joint venture contract with the witness of the Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, whereby the parties will establish a 50:50 JV in China to engage in connected car business. The JV will have a registered capital of RMB180,000,000 and a total investment of RMB270,000,000. The parties will proceed with relevant regulatory procedures after signing. China Mobile is a mobile communications operator on GSM, TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE networks with the largest mobile network and subscriber base in the world. Deutsche Telekom is the largest telecommunications operator in Europe and the fifth largest telecommunications operator in the word, covering fixed-network, mobile communications, Internet and IPTV products and services, and information and communication technology solutions. Based on Deutsche Telekom’s mature Connected Car platform technology in European markets and China Mobile’s network resources as well as the local business development and operation experiences, the JV will provide connected car solutions of hardware, connected car cloud platform, system integration and operation, as well as end-to-end content service to the vehicle pre-installed market and aftermarket.
Zhong Lun represents China Mobile on this project and has rendered a comprehensive range of legal services for the client, including without limitation deal structuring, drafting and negotiation of transactional documents. Zhong Lun’s team is led by Mr. Xuebing Zhang and William Qiu, and team members mainly include Yidong Wei, Yolanda Huang, Yuanyuan Tao and Haiyan Lai.
