Partner Ping Gu Addresses US-China Intellectual Property Adjudication Conference
From May 28 to May 30, 2012, the US-China Intellectual Property Adjudication Conference was held in Renmin University of China. The Conference was quite large in scale, attracted more than 1,000 attendees, and was praised by foreign media as “a bilateral activity of the largest scale and the highest level in the field of IP adjudication between US and China". Attendees included Mr. SHEN, Deyong, Executive Vice President of Supreme People’s Court, Mr. KONG, Xiangjun, Chief Judge, IPR Tribunal of the Supreme People’s Court, Mr. TIAN, Lipu, Commissioner of State Intellectual Property Office, Mr. Gary Locke, United States Ambassador to China, Mr. Randall R. Rader, Chief Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, Mr. David Kappos, Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the USPTO, etc. In the Conference, professionals from courts, government institutions, universities and research institutes, enterprises, law firms and patent agencies in US and China had broad and thorough discussions in topics of IP adjudication, Case Management in IP litigation, Enforcement of Patent Judgments, Copyright Protection for Computer Software, IP Commercialization, Update on Protection for Well-known Trademarks, etc.
Ms. Ping Gu, a partner of Zhong Lun Law Firm Beijing Office participated in preparation work for the Conference in the whole course as a member of the planning committee. Also, Ms. Gu was invited to present on the Panel of Copyright Protection for Computer Software and the Panel of IP Commercialization. Ms. Gu was the only speaker who delivered presentations in two Panels. In her presentation for the Panel of Copyright Protection for Computer Software, Ms. Gu carried out deep analysis on IP protection practices for computer software in US and China in connection with typical cases of copyright and patent right disputes of computer software she represented. In her presentation for the Panel of IP Commercialization, Ms. Gu introduced and analyzed a successful case she represented — Shanghai Geoharbour Group won the market competition and forced an international giant company to quit the market by successfully utilizing patent strategy, and Ms. Gu also shared a lot of practical experience. The two brilliant presentations given by Ms. Gu were very well received.
