Partner Linna Li of the London office gave speech at the International Marketplace Conference held by the UK Law Society
On July 9th, 2013, Ms Linna Li, a partner of the London office, attended International Marketplace Conference at the London headquarters of the UK Law Society. The conference was entitled “The London Link: innovation, opportunities and challenges in emerging markets". Linna’s speech focused on the choice between English law and Chinese law as the governing law in commercial transactions, with a general analysis as to the pros and cons from both legal and commercial prospectives. Linna pointed out that a complicated series of factors will need to be considered in deciding the governing law.
FDI and outbound investment are two specialised practice areas of the London Office. Linna has a wealth of experience in advising foreign businesses with their investments into China as well as Chinese investors’ overseas acquisitions.
The conference was sponsored by UK Trade & Investment, the China-Britain Business Council and the ABA section of International Law. The attendees and speakers were from renowned international law firms such as Eversheds, Berwin Leighton Paisner, Norton Rose, Bird & Bird and other top-tier law firms from South America, Africa and Asia, together with in house counsels and acclaimed academics.
The conference highlighted the business opportunities that existed for firms of all sizes in providing legal services in commercial transactions in emerging markets, examined the trends in intra-emerging-market trade and investment and provided a forum for UK and overseas law firms to forge collaborative business partnerships to provide innovative legal services in those markets.
