Partner Audry Hong Li Attended Landing Ceremony of CIETAC North America Arbitration Centre in Vancouver
On July 2, 2018 Canada local time, Audry Hong Li Zhong Lun Partner, as a member of CIETAC (China International Economic & Trade Arbitration Commission) delegation, attended the landing ceremony of CIETAC’s North America Arbitration Centre held in Vancouver and witnessed the historical moment of first China arbitration institution to officially launch its first overseas registered arbitration office outside China.
As the leader and promoter of China's foreign-related arbitration, CIETAC has experienced and witnessed the development of China arbitration and its integration with international arbitration. The establishment of CIETAC North America Arbitration Centre in Vancouver Canada, will be a helpful platform to put into practice the most advanced concepts and practice of international arbitration and enhance the internationalization of China's arbitration services. It will also be a window for the arbitration and legal professional community in North America to learn more about China arbitration and a new platform for the Chinese and foreign legal professions to communicate extensively and jointly for the further development of international arbitration.
The landing ceremony was hosted by CIETAC and Vancouver Economic Commission of British Columbia. Key officers from Vancouver government and Chinese Consulate General have attended the ceremony. They include Mr. Hon. Bruce Ralston, Minister of Colombian department of Employment, Trade and Science and Technology, Mr. Hon.George Chow, Minister of Trade Affairs Department, Mr. Kong Weiwei, Vice Consul General of Chinese Consulate General in Vancouver, Shanjun Yu, Commercial Counsellor of Chinese Consulate General, and Mr. Dennis Pong, President of the Canadian Maritime Arbitration Association. The ceremony received heated welcome from more than 160 participants covering governmental departments, arbitration and legal profession, representatives from major Chinese enterprises and chambers of commerce in Vancouver. Ms. Xiaoling TONG, Consul General of Chinese Consulate General in Vancouver and Mr. Gregor Robertson, Mayor of Vancouver, sent special congratulatory letters to welcome the official establishment of CIETAC North America Arbitration Centre in Vancouver.
In the subsequent international commercial arbitration and legal forum following the opening ceremony, Audry gave a keynote speech as representative of CIETAC arbitrators to share her insight on how to prevent legal risks in cross border transactions and effectively resolve cross border disputes. Her eloquent presentation coupled with real case studies in how to turn dispute into win-win transactions through mediation has aroused great interest of the audience and well received by the participants. In the follow up panel discussions she also answered with the panelists questions from the participants on international arbitration and CIETAC.
