Ron Cai elected as Executive Committee Member of the IBA Communications Law Committee
Zhong Lun is pleased to announce that Ron Cai, Senior Counsel at the firm, was recently elected as an Executive Committee Member of the International Bar Association (IBA) Communications Law Committee.
As the world’s most authoritative and influential organization for legal professionals, the IBA, hosting members from 190 countries around the globe, has been committed to promoting the development and improvement of the global legal system. Ron’s election to the IBA Communications Committee as the only executive director from a Chinese law firm and one of two executive directors representing Asia, is not only a recognition of his professional experience and reputation, but also a reflection of Zhong Lun’s overall strength and international influence. Ron will take part in the management of the committee, helping to develop and promote the cooperation in global communications, the Internet, and other areas of high-tech law, and to voice the opinions of Chinese, and by extension Asian, legal professionals.
Ron has over 30 years of legal practice experience and is a seasoned expert in the laws related to high-tech, telecommunications, and media (TMT), serving many leading multinational and Chinese companies in varied industry sectors, including cloud computing, Internet of Things, e-commerce, digital media and entertainment, online games, virtual reality, digital healthcare, high-speed railway, new energy vehicles, and renewable energy, among others. In terms of practice areas, Ron is an accomplished practitioner in international mergers and acquisitions and greenfield investments, general corporate law, cross-border transactions, and dispute resolution, and has rich practical experience in international commercial arbitration, antitrust, and intellectual property licensing. Such consummate expertise has earned him considerable recognitions and praise from clients and peers.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Ron actively undertakes pro bona and public interest work. He serves as arbitrator at arbitration institutions such as the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, the Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, and Shanghai Arbitration Commission. Other notable roles of his include the President of the Columbia University Shanghai Alumni Association and Vice Chairman of the Xiamen University Shanghai Alumni Association.
