John Tong

Mr. Tong is experienced in handling complex and substantial commercial disputes for domestic and foreign clients, including corporate deadlock and infringement of company interest disputes, equity investment and repurchase disputes, joint venture and cooperation contract disputes, sales and distribution contract disputes, unfair competition disputes, etc. Mr. Tong has regularly represented clients in negotiations, litigations and arbitrations in China and overseas jurisdictions and has accumulated extensive practical experiences.

In Shipping, Mr. Tong regularly provides well-known shipyards, shipowners and trading houses in China and abroad with legal services in relation to shipbuilding, ship sale and purchase, leasing, operating and financing, including the drafting, review and negotiation of transaction documents, issuance of legal opinions, dispute resolution, etc.

In Labor and Employment, Mr. Tong provides clients in various industries with comprehensive legal services covering perennial legal consultation, drafting and review of employee handbook and policies, ESOP, redundancy and personnel structure optimization, entry and exit of senior management, non-compete and commercial secrets protection, labor dispute arbitration and litigation, etc.

  • Represented Chinese shipbuilding and offshore engineering companies in dozens of institutional or ad hoc arbitrations in London, Hong Kong, etc. with foreign ship owners, involving various vessel types and huge amounts in dispute

  • Represented various enterprises or individuals from China and abroad in complex disputes involving multiple parallel litigations and arbitrations arising out of cooperation and/or investment agreements

  • Provided domestic and foreign ship owners with legal services covering tendering and bidding, contract negotiation, project implementation and final delivery for their shipbuilding projects in China

  • Provided shipyard clients in China with comprehensive legal services for their newbuilding and resale projects

  • Provided numerous multi-national enterprises and Chinese enterprises with comprehensive labor and employment legal services
