Yin ZHOU
Steven Zhou is an English and Wales and PRC dual qualified lawyer. He focuses on shipping business and his clients mainly include banks, leasing houses, shipowners and charterers, and commodity traders.
Steven has been frequently engaged to be a leading counsel to conduct ship finance, including structuring the transaction, drafting documents, attending to negotiations and closing, etc.
Steven has regularly acted as counsel before PRC courts at all levels (including the Supreme People’s Court) and various domestic arbitration institutions. He has also participated in international arbitrations administered by ICC, SCC, HKIAC, and SIAC, and ad hoc arbitrations governed by the respective rules in London, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
Representative Matters
Provided legal service for China Huarong Shipping Financial Leasing Co., Ltd., including reviewing an international syndicated loan agreement and relevant security documents and providing legal advice in respect of a USD 100 million refinancing project for a VLGC newbuilding project in a Korean shipyard for a Nordic oil transport giant
Acted as leading counsel and provided comprehensive legal service for JIC Leasing (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. in respect of its first US dollar ship financial leasing project, which is also the client’s first cross-board ship finance transaction
Acted as leading counsel and provided comprehensive legal service for Xiamen C&D Group in respect of its first newbuilding financing project, which is also the client’s first pre-delivery ship finance transaction
Acted for clients to successfully defend before Tianjin Maritime Court against a claim jointly lodged by CEIEC and China Continental Property and Casualty Insurance Co., Ltd. for cargo loss incurred in the transit of Strait of Magellan in relation to the cargo loaded onboard in Republic of Chile
Represented Grand All (Shanghai) Int’l Trading Co., Ltd. in successfully claiming cargo loss against CMA CGM S.A. incurred under a carriage of goods by sea contract before Shanghai Maritime Court
