Yutian ZHANG

Mr. Zhang Yutian joined Zhong Lun Law Firm as partner in March 2017. Mr. Zhang has a dedicated legal practice in dealing with disputes regarding shipping, admiralty, international and domestic trade.
Mr. Zhang has 9 years’ experience as a judge, and had handled hundreds of admiralty and shipping cases, from which he gained rich experience for maritime trial and was awarded as Outstanding Young Judges in Qingdao City in 2007. Since he commenced practicing, Mr. Zhang has participated in or taken lead in numerous major admiralty disputes as ship collision and oil pollution, assisted a dozen domestic and overseas leading shipping companies in dealing with disputes over marine transportation, and represented the clients in several international trade disputes in litigation and arbitration proceedings. Meanwhile, Mr. Zhang is also providing legal consultancy services to domestic shipping, logistics and trading companies.

  • Represented an Iranian ship-owner in defending the claims arising out of ship collision, grounding and oil pollution before Qingdao Maritime Court (RMB 250 million in dispute)

  • Represented a Wuhu shipping company in a defending a claim arising out of ship collision before Qingdao Maritime Court (RMB 20 million in dispute)

  • Represented a Weihai oil-cleaning company in claiming for cleanup costs for oil pollution arising out of ship grounding before Qingdao Maritime Court (RMB 26 million in dispute)

  • Represented a Qingdao shipping company against a Shanghai company in a dispute arising out of charter party before Qingdao Maritime Court (RMB 24 million in dispute)

  • Represented a Shandong steel company in a dispute arising out of Container demurrage before Qingdao Maritime Court (USD 0.5 million in dispute)

  • Represented a Rizhao company in CIETAC arbitration regarding a dispute arising out of a sales contract (USD 4 million in dispute)

  • Represented an Italian company in a dispute arising out of sales contract before Shandong Higher People’s Court (RMB 50 million in dispute)

  • Represented a Hongkong company in a dispute arising out of warehousing contract fraud at Qingdao (RMB 140 million in dispute)

  • Represented a state-owned company in a dispute arising out of ship ownership before Qingdao Maritime Court (USD 30 million in dispute)
