Zhong Lun Co-hosted Seminar on Implementation of Newly Amended Law of Lawyers with Chineselawyers Monthly Magazine
Jointly with the China Lawyers magazine, the firm hosted a seminar in title “Implementation of Newly Amended Law of Lawyers" at the firm’s premises in the Zhonglun Law Firm Beijing office on December 20, 2007. The seminar was co-emceed by Zhang Xuebing, the director of Zhonglun Law Firm and Xing Wuyi, the Senior Journalist of Chineselawyers Monthly magazine. The special guests included Zhang Yi, deputy director of the Legislative Affairs Department of Ministry of Justice P.R.C; Dong Chun-jiang, vice-chairman of Beijing Justice Administration; Chen Jia-lin, director of Civil Law Department of the NPC Legal Affairs Commission; Wang Yong of Department of Lawyers of Ministry of Justice; Wang Jun, Director of Law Firm Management and Direction of Ministry of Justice; Xiao Li-zhu, Secretary General of Beijing Bar Association, other senior officials of legislative and judicial authorities, and managing partners of some large law firms which includes Senior Partner Jiang Qi from Shandong Deheng Law Firm, vice-chairman Dong Yiming from Shandong Zhongchengrenhe Law Firm, Cao Zhilong from Shanghai United Law Firm, Chairman Peng Xuefeng from Dacheng Law Firm, Liu Yanling from King&Wood Law Firm, Chairman Xiao Wei from Junhe Law Firm, Chairman Pang Zhengzhong from Jincheng&Tongda Law Firm, Huang Weimin from Grandall Law Firm. Professor Guan Xiaofeng, vice-professor Chen Yi and Professor Wang Jinxi from China University of Political Science and Law have attended the seminar. The main discussion in the seminar was on the concept of “Special General Partnership" established in the newly amended Law of Lawyers and the impact on operation of the law firms.
The newly amended Law of Lawyers has for the first time allows law practice in form of “special general partnership". In evaluate this new concept, the legislative and management representatives from presented their positions while the managing partners have also voiced their opinion through well prepared discussions on the issues concerning public holdout of law firm’s status, systematic control of law practice exposure, definition of “willfulness" and “gross negligence".
The seminar is a positive push to better implementation of the newly amended Law of Lawyers and highly appraised by the senior legislative and management officials.
