Partner Sun Wei Gave Speech on the Annual International Commercial Law & Arbitration Conference of the Moot Alumni Association
On 23 March 2018, the Annual International Commercial Law & Arbitration Conference, organized by the Moot Alumni Association, was held in Vienna, Austria. The conference focused on “Recent Developments in International Arbitration and the CISG", with prominent practitioners from the ICC International Court of Arbitration, the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law, the Essex Court Chambers, Zeiler Partners and other law firms attending as speakers. A larger number of participants and coaches of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot attended the conference.
Mr. Sun Wei, a partner of Zhong Lun Law Firm, was invited as a guest speaker to deliver a speech on challenge to arbitrators. With the topic of “Issue Conflict in Challenge to Arbitrators: Current Standards and Reflections", Mr. Sun introduced the origin, significance and the latest developments of issue conflict in international commercial arbitration and investment arbitration. On the basis of reform proposals on investment arbitration put forward by UNCITRAL, Mr. Sun also shared his reflections on the rationality and necessity of the concept of issue conflict. As one of the most controversial issues in international arbitration, issue conflict has attracted the attention of a large number of international arbitration scholars and practitioners. Mr. Sun’s original deep insights stimulated heated discussions at the conference.
The Moot Alumni Association is a non-profit organization established in Vienna, Austria and one of the organizers of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. Zhong Lun Law Firm sponsored this annual conference.
During his stay in Vienna, Mr. Sun was also invited by Mr. Nikolaus Pitkowitz, a vice chairman of the Vienna International Arbitration Center and a member of the Expert Advisory Committee of the Permanent Forum of China Construction Law, to visit Graf & Pitkowitz LLP, where Mr. Nikolaus Pitkowitz is a founding partner. Mr. Sun also attended the opening ceremony of the 25th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot.
