On April 17, 2018, CIETAC organized a seminar on the topic of “Arbitration in Legal Risks Prevention and Dispute Resolution" in Sydney facing Chinese enterprises operating in Australia, which was sponsored by CIETAC's representative office in Australia and the Sydney branch of China Construction Bank. WANG Hongbo, counselor at the Economic and Commercial Section of the Consulate General of PRC in Sydney, WANG Chengjie, Secretary-General of CIETAC, and Wang Wenying,Secretary-General of CIETAC Hong Kong Arbitration Center, attended the seminar and gave speeches.
Mr. Sun Wei, partner at Zhong Lun Law Firm and a CIETAC arbitrator, was invited to attend the seminar and delivered a keynote speech titled as "Overseas Business Cooperation Disputes involving Chinese Enterprises and Chinese Lawyers' Role in International Disputes Resolution." Mr. Sun, through case analysis, summarized the typical legal risks Chinese enterprises may encounter while engaging overseas business cooperation and the lessons learnt. He suggested Chinese enterprises should pay high attention to compliance and risk-control relating to overseas business collaboration procedures, actively participate in the operation and management of overseas joint ventures, and seek professional legal advice at early stages.
More than 30 officers in charge or General Counsels from local subsidiaries or branches of Chinese enterprises such as China Construction Bank, SINOMINE, State Grid, Chine Telecom, Bank of Communications, China Merchants Bank, ICBC, China Mobile and China Unicom also participated in the seminar.
