Partner SUN Wei Invited and Accompanied the President and Vice President of ICC International Court of Arbitration for Visits to ACLA and Chinese Enterprises
On May 30 and 31, 2018, at the invitation of Mr. SUN Wei, Partner of Zhong Lun Law Firm and ICC Young Arbitrator Forum China Representative, Alexis Mourre, President of ICC International Court of Arbitration, Mohamed S.Abdel Wahab, Vice President of ICC International Court of Arbitration, and FAN Mingchao, ICC Regional Director of Arbitration & ADR for North Asia, paid visits to the All China Lawyers Association (“ACLA"), Xinxing Cathay International Group, POWERCHINA International Group Limited (“POWERCHINA"), and China State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited (“CSCEC").
At ACLA, Mr. ZHANG Xuebing, Vice President of ACLA and Managing Partner of Zhong Lun Law Firm, together with persons in charege of ACLA’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Professional Arbitration Committee, and International Department, held a cordial meeting with the ICC delegation. Mr. Mourre introduced unique mechanisms of ICC arbitration and ICC’s participation in the “Belt and Road" Initiative related dispute resolution, while Mr. ZHANG elaborated on the progress ACLA has achieved in cultivating elite Chinese lawyers with reach experiences in international arbitration. Regarding how to deepen the cooperation between ICC and ACLA on training of talented lawyers, the parties conducted fruitful discussions and reached preliminary agreements.

At Xinxing Cathay International Group, ICC delegation met Dr. GAO Yawei, General Counsel, and ZHANG Ran, Deputy General Manager of Legal Affairs Department; at POWERCHINA, ICC delegation met LU Feng, Vice President, ZHOU Xueqin, General Manager of Law and Risks Dpt., LI Zhiyong, Deputy Manager of Law and Risks Dpt.; at CSCEC, ICC delegation met QIN Yuxiu, General Counsel, LI Shujiang, Executive Director of Overseas Operations, and XU Qianqian, General Manager of the Contract and Legal Affairs Department. During the meetings, ICC delegation introduced ICC’s system design and practices on scrutiny of arbitral awards and management of arbitration costs and time span. The enterprises introduced their overseas business as well as experience and lessons learned while participating in international arbitration. Further, ICC clarified certain doubts held by the enterprises. Both the ICC delegation and Chinese enterprises believe the meetings are not only helpful for ICC to deepen its awareness of the needs of its Chinese arbitration users and for the enterprises to better protect their rights with an enhanced understanding of ICC rules and practices.
