The 2023 Global Wealth Management Forum (“Forum") was held at Beijing International Wealth Center on December 7 and 8, 2023. The Forum, themed “Boosting Growth and Openness with High-Quality Financial Development", was under special guidance of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Local Financial Regulation and Supervision and Tongzhou District People’s Government of Beijing Municipality and co-sponsored by CAIJING Magazine. Top-tier Chinese and international experts, scholars, and industrial elites in wealth management joined the Forum and shared insights about trends in the field and hot topics including cross-border finance, green finance, pension finance, and fintech.
Hengka (Henry) Ji, a partner from Zhong Lun, was invited to speak at the closed-door session titled “Exploring Ways to Cement the Role of the Urban Sub-center as a ‘Global Wealth Management Center’". Mr. Ji opened his speech by briefly introducing the development of laws and regulations regarding China’s private wealth in the context of current legal and policy environment. He then pointed out that middle- and high-net-worth individuals have been giving increasing weight to wealth management, and law firms and related professional service providers are playing a crucial role in promoting and safeguarding the healthy development of the wealth management industry. Mr. Ji advocated learning from Hong Kong SAR, Singapore, and Dubai, where policies on family investment, taxation, and philanthropy are supportive, and employing this multi-perspective informed mindset to further enhance China’s competitiveness and attractiveness in the international market of wealth management. In conclusion, Mr. Ji offered suggestions including improving wealth protection tools to address current needs and risks in this industry and provided advice for building
urban sub-centers into global wealth management magnets.
