Robert Lewis Joins Zhong Lun Law Firm as International Managing Partner
We are pleased to announce that Robert Lewis has recently joined Zhong Lun as the International Managing Partner of the firm. Mr. Lewis will be a member of the firm’s global management committee and in his role as International Managing Partner he will work side by side with Zhong Lun’s Managing Partner, Zhang Xuebing, to help coordinate the firm’s international strategy and help promote the firm’s international cooperation relationships and international practices. Mr. Lewis will also work closely with the Hong Kong office of Zhong Lun as well as Boughton Peterson Yang Anderson, Zhong Lun’s Hong Kong affiliate.
Mr. Lewis has practiced in China for nearly 20 years. He was formerly the managing partner of the Beijing office of Lovells (now Hogan Lovells) for nine years before joining the Beijing office of Shanghai-based AllBright Law Offices earlier last year, making him one of the first senior foreign lawyers to make the move from an international law firm to a leading Chinese law firm.
Zhang Xuebing, Zhong Lun’s Managing Partner, commented on the announcement as follows:
Robert Lewis is one of the most highly-respected foreign lawyers in China and is well-known by all Chinese lawyers, but he is also a long-time close personal friend. Personally and on behalf of Zhong Lun, I warmly welcome Robert to Zhong Lun and look forward to working with him to further develop the firm’s international business, including enhanced cooperation with leading foreign law firms, in-bound work for foreign multi-national corporations, and out-bound work for major Chinese companies expanding their business operations in the global marketplace.
Robert Lewis had the following comments on his new appointment:
In the course of this past year, my experience with AllBright has reinforced my views on the favorable market opportunities for senior foreign lawyers in leading Chinese law firms. At the same time, it became increasingly clear to me that being based in Beijing I needed to be in a Beijing-based law firm in order to maximize those opportunities. Zhong Lun’s breadth of practice area strengths in Beijing together with its national footprint and recent strengthening and expansion of its international platform in Tokyo and Hong Kong makes Zhong Lun a very appealing platform for me. I look forward to working with my new colleagues at Zhong Lun to solidify the firm’s position as one of the top national law firms in China and a leader among domestic law firms in respect of cross-border legal work.
