Zhong Lun Senior Counsel Huawei Sun Appointed Vice-Chair of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre
On May 13, 2026, the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (“HKIAC”) announced the appointment of its new Co-Chairs and Vice-Chairs. Ms. Huawei Sun, Senior Counsel at Zhong Lun and a member of the HKIAC Proceedings Committee, has been appointed Vice-Chair of HKIAC, alongside Mr. Thomas Walsh, Partner at Clifford Chance in Hong Kong, effective from July 1, 2026.
Established in 1985, HKIAC is an independent, non-profit dispute resolution institution specialising in arbitration, mediation, adjudication, and domain name dispute resolution services. It is widely recognised as one of the world’s leading dispute resolution institutions. According to the Queen Mary University and White & Case International Arbitration Survey, HKIAC has consistently ranked among the top three most preferred arbitral institutions globally. To date, HKIAC has managed more than 13,000 cases involving 120 jurisdictions. In 2025, HKIAC received 582 cases, with the total amount in dispute reaching USD 16.2 billion, both representing record highs. In recent years, HKIAC has continued to strengthen its engagement and cooperation with the arbitration community in Chinese mainland. Following the establishment of its representative office in Shanghai in 2015, HKIAC further established a representative office in Beijing in 2024.
HKIAC’s Council currently comprises 24 members from 19 jurisdictions, all of whom are senior dispute resolution professionals. Several Zhong Lun partners and counsels currently serve as HKIAC arbitrators, including Mr. Lijun Cao, Ms. Wen Dai, Mr. Gary Gao, Mr. Wilson Huo, Ms. Huawei Sun, Mr. Wei Sun, Mr. David Wang and Mr. Jian Zhao.
Zhong Lun is the only Chinese law firm with lawyers holding key positions at all three major international arbitral institutions: HKIAC, the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC Court).
