Zhong Lun Advises General Motors on Strategic Renewal of SAIC-GM Joint Venture
On August 5, 2026, General Motors and SAIC Motor officially signed a joint venture renewal agreement, extending the term of their joint venture, SAIC General Motors Corporation Limited ("SAIC-GM"), by 20 years through 2047.
This renewal marks a new chapter for SAIC-GM, which has been a leading force in China’s automotive industry since 1997, positioning the joint venture to accelerate technological transformation, explore new growth opportunities, and deliver sustainable profitability.
Zhong Lun Law Firm acted as the PRC counsel to General Motors, providing comprehensive legal services for this strategic renewal. The legal team was led by partner Anthony Zhao, with regional partner Roy Zheng and partner Gary Gao taking charge of the matter; it also included non-equity partner Yangjie Zhou, and associate Ruby Zheng, along with Zhewei Yu. This project once again demonstrates the Zhong Lun team's strong capability in advising major multinational corporations on their strategic projects in China.
